Introduction to BackTrack - Local boot to remote root in just one CD


7th December, 10am to 1pm & quick review at 5pm
Pre-requisite:

  1. BYOL : Bring Your Own Laptop
  2. Basic knowledge of Linux
  3. Basic knowledge of Information Security
  4. Download and try BackTrack3 http://www.remote-exploit.org/cgi-bin/fileget?version=bt3-cd

Workshop Outline

  • Introduction to BT
  • Configuring different services on BT
  • Creating backdoors
  • Port scanning
  • Scanning Web servers
  • Sniffing Traffic
  • ARP Poisoning (Man in the middle attack)
  • Running various exploits on Windows servers
  • Hacking Passwords (FTP, Telnet, Windows, vnc, etc)

What NOT to expect

  1. Don't expect the instructor to teach you how to configure your wireless card on linux
  2. Don't expect the instructor to fix your X server (GUI) on the day of workshop
  3. Don't expect the instructor to teach you ABC of security
  4. Don't expect the instructor to hack into someone's gmail account :)

What is expected from the attendees

  1. Learn about BackTrack
  2. Learn basic usage skills
  3. Try attacking test lab setup at the workshop
  4. Submit their attack skills before the end of the day (More details will be given in the workshop)

  1. How to configure and secure home wifi
  2. Difference between home & corporate wireless
  3. Threats and attacks
  4. How to mitigate wireless attacks
  5. How to attack WEP / WPA. To test your installations

  1. Don't expect the instructor to teach you how to configure your wireless card
  2. Don't expect the instructor to fix your home wifi
